Dear members of the Jemielity/Jemielita clan
You wil find below some of my notes on the history of the family (its members) that I started collecting quite a few years ago). I hope to write in more detail and provide some historical and geographical background in the future. This is only the beginning but it takes time and I am a busy person so please be patient:) This piece is only a rough translation so please forgive all the mistakes, I decided to translate something quickly just to give you a chance to see how old our history is, hoping that you will both like it and help with every available info you have managed to find. I promise to continue with the rough translation of the info soon. There is much more to it, really a lot. Data from Ellis Island archives are exciting, e.g. Emelita and Emelity in the US are also our clan - the spelling of documents written in Russian language and not Polish changed the family name. You will read about soldiers and priests, dignitaries and impoverished members of the clan, some heroes and some villains...

coat of arms: Pobog, the documents show also Boza Wola (God's Will) and Pielesz, but the last one (Pielesz) is most probably a mistake.

They were also called Jemielisty, Jemielicki i Jemielecki; they took their name after a village Jemielite, in Smlodowo parish (today it is Sniadowo), in the northern part of Mazovia, they owned Jemielite as early as in the XIV century, and already in the XV century the family was numerous.

In the work of professor J. Wisniewski we can find information that in 1411 the village Brzeznica Jamielisty was owned by Jakub Jemielisty – the village was part of a new parish Puchaly, where a new church was erected.
Jakusz from Jemielite – duke of Mazovia Janusz I gave Jakusz 4 units of land (1 unit = 17 ha; 1 ha = 10 000 square metres)

Andrzej from Jemielite - Agata, Sadka and Elisabeth, daughters of Andrew from Jemielite confirmed that Mscislaw, an heir (successor?) in Jemielite paid for the part of land purchased in this village.

Wielislaw from Jemielite (1421) – duke Janusz Ist grantem 20 units of land to Wielislaw from Jemielite, near Kamiennybrod on the Slina River near Zawady, with one bank of the river, without the right to keep beehive

Jakub Jemielisty sold his land called Brzeznica to Piotr from Poryte
Piotr Jemielity is mentioned in the documents of Szczepankowo parish, he owned land at the Gac river.
1499 – Ziemak, son of Peter
1504- Mscislaw and Jacob, sons of Mroczek
1528- Wawrzyniec Jemielity married Elisabeth Kisielnicka, daughter of Joseph Kisielnicki, heir to Boguszyce village.
The first partition/division of Jemielite took place probably in 1425 when one Jemielity sold to another 5 units of land. In 1463 Andrew and Mroczek of Pobog coat of arms were witnesses for Stanislaw Giemza, in the same year Mroczek and Peter are witnesses for Jan Tyszka.

1592 - Jan Jemielita, Lomza tax collector and many others are quoted In the documents of Lomza, Wizna and Nur. Jan Jemielita, junior judge, later became senior judge, had many descendants:
Peter, son of Ignacy and Joanna Sierzputowska, a clerk in the Warsaw Municipal Council, Peter had a son Wladyslaw with Ludwika Brucka.

Maciej, son of Jan, Mateusz, son of Lukasz, Wojciech, son of Roch, Peter, son of Leon, Jacob, Kazimierz, son of Jacob, Stanislaw and Maciej, sons of Thomas, Walenty Jemielity, son of Jacob proved their nobility (Poland was under Russia’s occupation then) in 1845-1858 with the coat of arts – Pielesz (note: the coat of arms was not the real coat of arms that the family had the right to use).
Thomas Jemielity, son of Andrew, the sword bearer in the years 1644-1655. Thomas was an heir to Besk, and his father Adrew, son of Thomas was called Jemielicki. Andrew Jemielicki had another son, Stanislaw.
Thomas Jemielity, the sword bearer, had a son Jan (John). Jan was an important person in Trembowla, a Town in Podole (today Ukraine) – he was a judge and vicemayor/vicepresident of Trembowla. Jan married Joanna Lysoskorska and had 1. son Michal (Michael), Michal had sons Jan and Stefan and daughters Anna and Maryanna, 2. Son Pawel (Paul), 3 daughters: Maryann, Eufrozyna and Teresa. Pawel married Ewa from Czosnowo, they got Krowinka village in 1700.

1647r. - Marcin, son of Andrew and Emerencyja Modzelewska, heir to villages Jemielite and Chomentowo (parts of villages)

1669 r. Marcin-Floryan, parson in Wasosz

1699 – parson Rudolf Jemielity , parish in Lasin.
1737 r. Augustyn in Przemysl.
1680 – Marcin Jemielita parson in Zabludowo


Hilary Jemielity v. Jemielicki, son of Walenty, treasurer, he donated generously Jesuits in Lomza, he gave them a building in Lomza Central Market, that gave 20 thousand bricks to build the church in Lomza, he died in 1772, no successors.
